Long Eaton's £10 Million High Street Makeover: Monthly Drop-In Sessions Launch This July
Long Eaton residents and business owners now have a regular chance to find out more about the town’s biggest regeneration project in decades. A new series of monthly drop-in events is being launched to keep the community informed as work continues on the £10 million transformation of the High Street and Tamworth Road.
First Drop-In Session: Tuesday 7 July
The first session takes place on Tuesday 7 July, from 11am to 2pm, at number 22; the former drapers shop on the High Street that’s now home to popular bar Rowells. It’s the same building where work on the town’s major revamp began at the start of June.
Anyone curious about what’s happening on their doorstep is welcome to pop in, meet some of the people behind the project, and ask questions directly. Further sessions will follow on the first Tuesday of every month, giving residents and traders an ongoing opportunity to track progress and stay up to date.
What's Driving the Long Eaton Regeneration?
The High Street project is part of the wider £25 million Long Eaton Town Deal, secured by Erewash Borough Council through government regeneration funding. It’s already been powering a range of projects across the town, with the High Street scheme widely seen as the flagship.
A well-attended exhibition at the town hall earlier this year gave residents an early look at the plans before work got underway – and these new monthly sessions build on that momentum, offering a more regular, informal way to stay involved.
Richard Ledger, local business leader and chair of the Town Deal Board, said the project reflects years of careful preparation:
“The High Street project is definitely the showcase one and has taken years of meticulous planning – not least to ensure that shops and businesses can remain open while work is underway. This is something we are very keen to stress.”
Signs have gone up around the town centre reinforcing that message – Long Eaton is open for business throughout the works.
What Will the New High Street Look Like?
The finished scheme promises a greener, more welcoming town centre, built around a striking new main square. Among the design highlights:
- Sofa-style benches – a playful nod to Long Eaton’s long heritage as a centre of furniture-making
- A Dame Laura Knight trail – celebrating the town’s most famous artistic daughter, one of the most celebrated British painters of the 20th century, who was born in Long Eaton
- Wider pavements along both the High Street and Tamworth Road, making the area easier and more pleasant to explore on foot
When Will Work Be Finished?
The High Street and Tamworth Road improvements are on track for completion by spring next year. As Richard Ledger put it: “It is going to be a truly massive boost for Long Eaton.“
