Long Eaton's High Street is Getting a Major Makeover – Here's What You Need to Know
Exciting times are ahead for Long Eaton town centre. After years of planning and consultation, work on the Long Eaton Town Deal High Street Scheme is now officially under way — and it promises to transform our High Street into a more vibrant, welcoming space for businesses, shoppers, and residents alike.
A Long Time Coming
Following successful Town Deal proposals submitted to the UK Government back in 2021, the redesign of Long Eaton High Street has progressed to reflect the high design standards of the Market Place. The process has involved targeted engagement with taxi drivers, street traders, market traders, high street retailers, and blue badge parking users — meaning the final design truly reflects the needs of the people who use our town centre every day. The result will be improved public realm, more trees, and a town centre that’s a genuine destination in its own right.
Who's Doing the Work?
Galliford Try has been appointed as the contractor for works covering the High Street, Tamworth Road, and other town centre areas. You may already have spotted their surveyors out and about on High Street, work began towards the end of May 2026, with completion expected in Spring 2027.
What to Expect During the Works
The scheme is being delivered in stages, and the team is committed to keeping disruption to a minimum for businesses and visitors. Here’s a quick summary of what’s planned:
- Access to your premises will be maintained throughout published opening hours. Any work immediately outside business frontages will be carried out while those businesses are closed.
- Vehicle deliveries to High Street will be possible before 10am and after 4pm, though parking directly outside premises may not always be available.
- Blue Badge parking on High Street will be suspended during the works, but additional provision has been made at Beaconsfield and Claye Street car parks.
- Tamworth Road works will take place in two stages — first with narrowed vehicle lanes and alternative pedestrian routes, then with a temporary one-way traffic arrangement. Access to premises will be maintained throughout.
